Chances are that if your dog has a slipped disc, the symptoms won’t be mild. It’s a pretty painful experience, so it’s likely that your dog will behave quite differently. If you’re not sure what to look out for, we can help.
One of the most common signs of a slipped disc is back pain. This can manifest itself in a number of ways. Your dog may start to carry himself in a strange way. For example, he may have a strange posture, with his head down and his back arched. He may also be much less enthusiastic about exercise. He probably won’t want to play and will spend most of his time lying as still as possible. He may also develop a strange gait when he walks.
If you suspect your doggo is in pain, run your hand (very gently) along his spine. Can you feel any abnormal bumps or lumps? Does it feel like something is sticking out where it shouldn’t be? That’s a good sign that something is wrong.
Your puppy may also experience more serious signs such as lameness, loss of coordination, weakness, paralysis, incontinence or even loss of sensation in the legs. If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, take him to the vet immediately!
